March 8th - Field Trip to the Canada Sports Hall of Fame!

3/8/2018

Today was our field trip to the Canada Sports Hall of Fame. Mr. Stanley was happy with how our class behaved at the museum! The following is a list of some of our highlights:
  • The simulations, including wheelchair racing, sportscasting, shooting basketballs, soccer balls, and hockey balls
  • Seeing a statue of the racehorse Northern Dancer
  • We watched a short documentary about inspirational Canadian athletes, including Joannie Rochette, Marilyn Bell, Lanny McDonald, Wayne Gretzky, Terry Fox, Nancy Greene, Herman-Smith Johannsen (aka "Jackrabbit" for his cross-country skiing style) who lived to be 111, and skied until he was 108, Donovan Bailey, Silken Laumann, and Tony Gabriel
  • Seeing a young athlete named Andrew from the National Sports School talk about his training and schooling
  • Seeing many different Olympic Torches, from Olympics such as the London Olympics, Vancouver, Sochi, Calgary, Pyeongchang, Athens, and Turin
  • A replica of the puck used in the first hockey game
  • A replica of the Lucky Loonie that was buried under centre ice at the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics

Today, tickets for our storytelling evening went home, please find them in your child's backpack, and email Mr. Stanley if you think you need more, less, or just have questions.
